Mass Transit Magazine Honors Stephen Kuban, Founder and CEO of Kuban Transit Solutions, with Prestigious 40 Under 40 Award

Award Highlights Kuban’s Industry Leadership in Developing the “One Transit Strategy” and Pioneering AI-Driven Approaches to Accessible Transit Planning

Ontario, Canada – August 19, 2025Mass Transit Magazine has named Stephen Kuban, Founder and CEO of Kuban Transit Solutions (KTS), a recipient of its prestigious 40 Under 40 Award, which celebrates the next generation of leaders shaping the future of public transit. Kuban is recognized for his decade-long contributions to microtransit, paratransit, and integrated mobility, culminating in the creation of the One Transit Strategy—a framework that unifies paratransit and fixed-route transit into a single, sustainable system.

Kuban launched Kuban Transit Solutions in July 2025, following leadership roles at RideCo and The Routing Company (TRC). His new consultancy applies AI-accelerated strategy and integrated frameworks to help agencies across North America address the “Paratransit Paradox”: rising demand and escalating costs paired with limited rider freedom.

“I’m deeply honored to be included in Mass Transit’s 40 Under 40 list,” said Kuban. “Transit is at a pivotal before-and-after moment. If the last decade was about experimenting with new operating models, the next decade is about how AI will accelerate putting it all together into sustainable strategies that deliver real freedom to riders.”

A Decade of Transit Innovation

Kuban began his transit career in 2015 at RideCo On Demand Transit, where he advanced from operations analyst to Director of Solutions Consulting. Notable projects included Milton Transit (the world’s first microtransit pilot), Los Angeles Metro’s Metro Micro, and Calgary Transit’s COVID-response microtransit system.

At The Routing Company, Kuban rose to Head of Growth, expanding revenue more than fivefold and securing the company’s largest contract in New York. There, he introduced the One Transit Strategy, reframing paratransit as central to unified transit networks rather than a parallel service.

His thought leadership extends into research and policy: presenting at APTA Mobility and Sustainability conferences, and contributing whitepapers on first-principles transit planning. He currently serves on TRB’s Standing Committee on Mobility of Older Persons and Individuals with Disabilities (AQC13, 2025–2028).

Shaping the Future of Accessible Transit

Through KTS, Kuban now partners with agencies to transform accessible transit delivery. His framework demonstrates how integrating paratransit with fixed-route networks—following models like Toronto Transit Commission’s Family of Services—can simultaneously reduce costs, increase fixed-route ridership, and provide same-day freedom to riders with disabilities.

“My proudest accomplishment is helping reframe how the industry views paratransit—not as a side service, but as the foundation of an integrated transit system,” Kuban reflected. “Seeing agencies adopt this perspective is proof the shift is underway.”
